An evening between jazz, new music, and surprising tension

With the Schlicht/Speicher-DUO, a new duo collaboration meets an attentive audience in Kassel that appreciates sound adventures. Ursel Schlicht and Martin Speicher bring their own works to the studio stage Deck 1 at the Culture House Dock 4, creating a space where improvisation, compositional precision, and spontaneous friction merge into an intense concert experience.

Music that breaks expectations

The uniqueness of this evening lies in the balance between structure and freedom. Ursel Schlicht has been navigating between jazz, new music, and intercultural formats for years as a pianist, musicologist, and initiator of improvised music. Martin Speicher also audibly moves with the times, giving the duo a clear, colorful voice with his saxophone and clarinet. Together, they create a dialogue that focuses not on effects, but on musical substance.

The live atmosphere in Dock 4

The studio stage Deck 1 in the Culture House Dock 4 provides the appropriate setting for this fine, concentrated form of a live evening. The space is known for various performance formats and a closeness between the stage and the audience that makes every nuance audible. Especially in improvised music, a particular audience atmosphere unfolds here, in which breath, pauses, and sound tension arcs become almost physically palpable.

A duo formation with attitude

Ursel Schlicht brings a long international career, including work in New York, releases on several jazz labels, and projects like SonicExchange. The press describes her playing as clear, substantial, and characterized by a special sonic finesse. For Martin Speicher, the musical present is also at the center: stylistically open, attentive, without routine. This concert draws its energy precisely from this.

What visitors can expect

Those who come to Dock 4 this evening will not experience a standard jazz concert but an open, lively interplay of composition and improvisation. The Schlicht/Speicher-DUO promises concentrated sound work, surprising twists, and an evening for listeners who love musical depth. Anyone wanting to experience new musical perspectives live should secure this date in Kassel.
