Everything will be Ruth: When Cartoons Capture the State of the World
The Caricatura Gallery Kassel dedicates to Ruth Hebler with Everything will be Ruth her first comprehensive solo exhibition. From August 1 to November 1, 2026, the exhibition showcases around 130 works by the award-winning cartoonist: cartoons, comics, paintings, objects, and videos. The art experience combines precise observation, political satire, and liberating humor.
Pointed Social Critique with Surprising Lightness
Ruth Hebler's visual language thrives on clear lines, pointed composition, and a secure instinct for the absurdities of everyday life. A Klingon philosophizes about Putin, digital overload causes fathers to forget their own son's name, and even ministries get thrown off balance by a small linguistic shift. The cartoons transform current conflicts into visual short forms, whose punchline often unfolds its full effect only upon a second glance.
From Cartoon to Diverse Exhibition
The curation presents not only classic drawings. Colorful image surfaces, three-dimensional works, and moving images extend Ruth Hebler's artistic spectrum. In the exhibition atmosphere, painting, object art, comics, and video meet as different media of a common attitude: the critical, humorous, and nonconformist reflection on social reality.
Humor as an Aesthetic Experience and Insight
Hebler's works stand in the tradition of political caricature and comic art. Her examination of the works leads from spontaneous cheerfulness to cultural education: Behind every punchline appear questions about language, power, digitization, public discourse, and the state of the present. The aesthetic experience arises from the interplay of reduced form, precise timing, and intellectual sharpness.
An Award-Winning Cartoonist
Ruth Hebler, born in 1973 in Trier and currently living in Cologne, works as a self-taught artist. Her cartoons have appeared in Stern, Eulenspiegel, daily newspapers, cartoon books, and calendars. She received the art prize Der freche Mario in 2014, placed second in the Salzburg Caricature Prize in 2018, and was awarded second place at the German Cartoon Prize in 2021 and third place in 2023.
Conclusion: Laugh, Observe, Reread the World
Everything will be Ruth promises an exhibition that connects entertainment and insight. Between cartoons, comics, paintings, objects, and videos, a multifaceted art experience about the present arises. Those who appreciate political pictorial satire, comic art, and intelligent social observation will experience an inspiring aesthetic encounter with lasting resonance at the Caricatura Gallery.
