HOSTLESS: Mohammed Sami's Rooms of Memory at Fridericianum
The HOSTLESS exhibition presents the first institutional exhibition of Mohammed Sami in Germany at the Fridericianum Kassel. On Thursday, November 5, 2026, the exhibition opens from 11 am to 7 pm. At the center is a new series of works, where empty interiors become psychological landscapes and mysterious repositories of memory.
Painting Between Architecture and Memory
Mohammed Sami focuses on interiors that initially appear as precise architectural studies. However, walls, windows, furniture, and objects possess a deeper presence in his painting. The spaces feel familiar yet distant, as if they have absorbed the traces of past events. Their significance remains open, while a quiet unrest permeates the surfaces of the images.
An Exhibition Atmosphere of Quiet Disturbance
The large-format paintings unfold their effect through muted colors, shifted perspectives, and a tense spatial effect. Light not only falls on the depicted interiors but also directs the viewer's attention to the invisible: to absence, memory, and that which eludes clear designation. Sami does not tell loudly and dramatically. His painting works with allusion, condensation, and psychological resonance.
The Painting as a Place of Remembering
In HOSTLESS, painting becomes a locus of mental processes. The rooms appear as haunted containers where remnants of events continue to resonate. Sami connects figurative painting with moments of abstraction. Objects receive a symbolic charge without losing their enigmatic openness. The aesthetic experience arises precisely from this tension between visible architecture and invisible history.
Art Historical Classification and Curation
The exhibition is being created in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst in Ghent and the Moderna Museet Malmö. It connects contemporary painting, memory culture, and questions about the representability of absence. The Fridericianum thus creates a concentrated framework for an art direction that makes psychological interiors not illustrative but atmospheric and physically tangible.
Cultural Education for Young Visitors
For the opening on October 2, 2026, there was a children's vernissage for children aged six to twelve. Together with the art education team, the young visitors explored mysterious places, worked with impulse cards, and developed their own images of personal memories in the studio workshop. The exhibition thus opens access for different generations and connects intensive artwork viewing with cultural education.
Conclusion: An Art Experience Between Intimacy and Strangeness
HOSTLESS awaits art enthusiasts with monumental painting, enigmatic interiors, and an exceptionally dense exhibition atmosphere. Mohammed Sami transforms architecture into a mental resonance space and invites to a concentrated aesthetic experience. Those who want to directly experience contemporary art, memory, and psychological spatial effect should definitely visit the exhibition at the Fridericianum before the original.
