LandArt in Transition: When Nature Becomes the Curator

“Landruf(t)” transforms the rest area Alex Ruh in Baunatal-Guntershausen into an extraordinary open-air gallery for four weeks. The open-air exhibition on the banks of the Fulda connects contemporary art, landscape, and community cultural work into an art experience that does not exhaust itself in the protected museum space, but unfolds directly in the open air.

An Exhibition That Takes Weather Change Seriously

The special aspect of this project lies in its curatorial approach: the works are intentionally exposed to wind, light, moisture, and the visible traces of time. This creates an aesthetic experience in which materiality, transience, and place are not merely subjects, but active components of the work's contemplation. Nature does not act merely as a backdrop, but as a collaborator.

Between LandArt, Sculpture, and Site-Specific Installation

The presented works relate to both natural conditions and human influences. This tension characterizes the exhibition and evokes central positions of LandArt and site-specific art. The audience encounters objects, installations, and artistic interventions that set minimal distance from the site, thereby developing an intense spatial effect.

Participants include Iris Hoffmann, Wilburg Kleff, Kordula Klose, Axel Kretschmer, Miriam Leitner, Lippold von Steimker, and Barbara Wokurka as well as students from Theodor-Heuss-Schule. Under the leadership of Judit Rozsas, the relationship between humans and nature is also further explored pedagogically. This gives the project a cultural educational dimension that goes beyond mere presentation.

Community, Workshops, and Cultural Education

“Landruf(t)” thrives on cooperation: KulturNetz Kassel, the city of Baunatal, and LOK Verein Guntershausen are pooling their resources for a format that connects art in public space with participatory offerings, workshops, and local associations. Musical contributions from the living room choir and children's choir provide a festive framework for the opening, along with additional offerings during the exhibition's duration. Thus, the exhibition becomes a vibrant place for cultural education and social interaction.

How to Reach the Exhibition

The open-air exhibition is located directly at R1 and the Eco-Trail in Guntershausen and is therefore easily accessible by bicycle and public transport. The Guntershausen train station is also nearby. Those who want to experience art while walking, sitting, looking, and observing the changes in the times of day will find a special place for slow, attentive contemplation of the works.

Conclusion: “Landruf(t)” is an exhibition for everyone who wants to experience art not only visually, but in dialogue with landscape, weather, and community. Anyone interested in LandArt, open-air art, and cultural education should definitely visit this extraordinary art experience in Baunatal-Guntershausen live.
