Right-Wing Terror in Hesse: An exhibition that remembers, informs, and demands action
The Kassel City Hall opens a traveling exhibition that offers a troubling but necessary perspective on the recent state history: right-wing violence in Hesse. Right-Wing Terror in Hesse will be displayed from March 27 to May 29, 2026, in the Citizen's Hall on the 2nd floor, highlighting how attacks, murders, and acts of violence continue to shape society, memory culture, and democratic consciousness. Admission is free.
An artistic experience with political urgency
The presentation features 24 roll-ups, photographs, and researched case studies. It focuses on, among other things, the murder of Halit Yozgat, the attack in Hanau, and the murder of Walter Lübcke. The exhibition makes visible what often fades too quickly from public memory: the stories of the victims, the continuities of right-wing violence, and the responsibility of a democratic society.
Education, memory, and democratic practice
Conceived as a traveling exhibition, the project is aimed at the public, schools, and initiatives. It is organized by the DGB Education Institute Hesse, funded by the Hesse State Center for Political Education. This connects political education with historical processing and creates a space for reflection in an expanded sense: not as aesthetic distance, but as a concentrated engagement with sources, images, and facts.
The exhibition space in Kassel City Hall
Kassel City Hall provides a public, easily accessible framework for this presentation. The exhibition can be seen in the main building in the area before the meeting rooms. The City Hall is considered barrier-free, making visits easier for various target groups. Particularly for school classes and groups, a place is created where cultural education, political education, and current democratic debates come together directly.
Why the visit is worthwhile
Right-Wing Terror in Hesse is not an exhibition to pass by casually. It demands attention, respect, and the willingness to look closely. Those interested in contemporary history, memory culture, political education, and social responsibility will experience a compelling exhibition with a clear stance. A visit is especially worthwhile for everyone who understands art and cultural venues as places of democratic understanding.
Conclusion: This exhibition conveys knowledge, touches hearts, and remains in memory. It makes the consequences of right-wing violence visible and invites us to rethink democratic engagement. Definitely experience it on-site.
