Working creatively, planning safely: Financial knowledge for self-employment

How does one successfully start creative self-employment without neglecting social security and financial planning? The event Creative – but safe! will address the questions that accompany artists, designers, and other creative professionals in their everyday work on November 3, 2026, at the Center for Creative Economy Kassel.

Practical knowledge for creative professions

Jan Käpernick will explain in an understandable and practical manner how the Artists' Social Security Fund works and which insurance policies are relevant for creative professionals. The focus will be on health insurance, pension insurance, private provisions, disability insurance, and liability risks.

The financial planning for self-employed individuals with fluctuating incomes is also included in the program. The lecture combines technical basics with concrete impulses for a sustainably viable organization of one’s own professional practice.

MAKE ART WORK: Impulses for professional practice

The event is part of the MAKE ART WORK series, which supports creatives in their professionalization. Besides financial security, the focus is also on self-employment, visibility, funding, the art market, copyright, and artificial intelligence.

The event experience thrives on direct exchange: professional impulses meet space for questions, networking, and personal conversations. The open event atmosphere at ZfKW is aimed at individuals who want to organize, finance, and further develop their creative work in the long term.

An evening for more security in creative professional life

Jan Käpernick collaborates with the initiative Artists for Artists and DSC Insurance Brokers AG. As a consultant in the university context and contact person for creative professionals, he brings experience from consulting practice into the event. Timo Kappeller will be connected remotely.

The Center for Creative Economy is a place for further education, cooperation, and networking in Kassel. The event is held in cooperation with the Kunsthochschule Kassel, supported by the cdw Foundation and funded by the Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing, and Rural Areas.

Conclusion: Knowledge that strengthens creative freedom

Anyone looking to translate creative ideas into a sustainable professional future will receive concrete guidance on KSK, insurance, provisions, and financial planning at Creative – but safe! The free evening offers valuable impulses and the opportunity to directly ask questions. Now mark your calendar and experience the event live at ZfKW.
