Flower Island Siebenbergen | Opening Hours & Admission

The Flower Island Siebenbergen is one of the greenest and most characterful excursion destinations in Kassel, located at the southern edge of the Karlsaue, right in the middle of one of the city's most well-known park areas. Visitors to the island experience not a classic event venue, but a historical garden landscape with changing floral splendor, quiet paths, surprising views, and an atmosphere that consciously sets itself apart from urban everyday life. The official presentation describes the island as a botanical masterpiece, which convinces especially through its diversity, seasonal effects, and the close connection of nature experience, history, and walking character. Particularly practical for planning are the clearly regulated opening hours, the well-visible location at Auedamm, and the visitor pavilion with café, ticket office, and museum shop. Thus, Siebenbergen is not only aimed at garden lovers but also at families, walkers, day visitors, and anyone looking for a quiet, picturesque, and well-organized park facility in Kassel. Opening Hours of the Flower Island Siebenbergen

Anyone wishing to visit Siebenbergen should definitely keep an eye on the season. The island is not open year-round, but is accessible only during the warm months each year. The official page of Hessen Kassel Heritage states that the opening hours are from April 1 to October 31. During this main season, the facility is open from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays; it is closed on Mondays. From April to September, the hours are daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, and in October from 10 AM to 5 PM. The last admission is one hour before closing time. The Flower Island remains closed during the winter months, emphasizing the seasonal character of the place. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

These opening hours are particularly helpful for planning visits, as Siebenbergen thrives on the changing seasons. The official text emphasizes that visitors experience very different impressions from spring to autumn: in spring, the color explosion of flowers and shrubs dominates, from May the rhododendron bloom, and in autumn, the colorful leaves shape the image. Therefore, those who plan their trip consciously can set a different focus depending on their goal. For a quiet walk, the times in the morning or late afternoon are particularly suitable when the paths are less busy, and the atmosphere of the facility is even more pronounced. Especially because Siebenbergen is only open for a limited time, checking the current season is one of the most important queries regarding the Flower Island. This also shows that many guests specifically search for opening hours, admission, and practical tips before heading to the Karlsaue. ([heritage-kassel.de](https://www.heritage-kassel.de/standorte/insel-siebenbergen))

Admission, Prices, and Discounts

Admission to the Flower Island Siebenbergen is clearly regulated and comparatively manageable. For adults, the visit costs 8 euros, the reduced admission is 5 euros. Children and teenagers up to 18 years receive free admission. Access is also free for certain eligible groups, including students of the University of Kassel and users of the FamilyApp Hessen. Those who visit more frequently or want to experience the place multiple times during the season can choose between a season ticket for 20 euros and an annual ticket for 60 euros. This pricing structure makes the island attractive for both spontaneous day visitors and returning guests. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

The admission regulation fits well with the character of the facility. Siebenbergen is not a place to be checked off in a few minutes, but a walking area that thrives on slow discovery. The costs therefore reflect less a show or event logic and more the care and gardening demands of a historical park facility. It is also important in practice that the last admission occurs one hour before closing. Therefore, if one wants to make the most of the time, they should not arrive too late. Combined with the seasonal opening hours, this creates a clear visiting framework that makes planning easy: arrive during the day, plan enough time for paths and breaks, and do not calculate the stay too tightly. Especially in the SEO context, the search terms related to admission, prices, and opening hours are particularly relevant because they are directly linked to the intention to visit. Address, Route, and Arrival at Siebenbergen

The official address of the Flower Island Siebenbergen is Auedamm 18, 34121 Kassel. This address is the most important point of orientation for arrival and appears consistently on the city and heritage pages. Siebenbergen is located at the southern end of the Karlsaue and thus in an area that is well connected to the Kassel city center. The official Kassel page provides a map, a route planner, and public transport connections, making arrival straightforward without major detours. Those searching for the keywords route or address will find a clear, practical solution without complicated detours. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

For actual planning, it is helpful to consider the location not in isolation but in the context of the Karlsaue. The Flower Island is part of a larger park system, where walking paths, water areas, and park-like open spaces are interconnected. This is precisely where the special charm of the place arises: one does not drive to a closed individual object, but to a landscape space where the transition from the urban environment to historical garden architecture is fluid. The official page shows that visitors on-site can use both the geo-data and the public transport connection. This is particularly important for guests planning their trip using public transport or wanting to view a route in advance. Although the term parking is frequently searched, the official sources primarily focus on arrival with map, route planner, and public transport. Therefore, it makes sense to plan the visit early and to check the route ideally before starting. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

Café in the Visitor Pavilion and Practical Facilities

A real plus of the Flower Island Siebenbergen is the visitor pavilion at the southern edge of the Karlsaue. The city of Kassel describes it as an inviting entrance to the Flower Island, which fits into the landscape park and frames the place at the same time. During the seasonal opening from April to October, this pavilion houses not only the ticket area and a museum shop but also a café with gastronomic offerings. For many visitors, this is more than a practical addition: it creates a point of rest before or after the walk and makes the stay significantly more relaxed. Especially during longer visits, family outings, or spring and summer visits, a café right on site is a clear advantage. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

However, the facilities of the island go beyond the café. The official information mentions barrier-free access and restroom facilities. Additionally, the city page emphasizes that the island is only partially accessible because paths are of different qualities and there are slopes in the terrain. This mix of good basic infrastructure and landscape-shaped path guidance is typical for historical park facilities. Those traveling with strollers, walkers, or wheelchairs should therefore check the conditions in advance and possibly plan for assistance. It is also practical that dogs are allowed on a leash. This keeps the Flower Island attractive for walks with dogs as long as one respects the rules and is considerate of the path guidance. Overall, Siebenbergen thus combines nature-oriented experience quality with a clearly defined service area, making the visit comfortable and authentic at the same time. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

History, Plant World, and Special Atmosphere

The history of the Flower Island Siebenbergen is a central part of its appeal. According to official information, the island was created in 1710 as a result of the excavation of the large basin with the Swan Island. In its early form, it was characterized by several small artificial lookout hills before parts of it were removed in the early 19th century, and the island was naturally modeled and replanted in the spirit of landscape gardening. From 1834, the Electoral Court Garden Director Wilhelm Hentze transformed the island, which had been created about 100 years earlier, into a landscape garden. This turned an artificially created area into a designed total work of art that has preserved its historical character to this day. This development explains why Siebenbergen does not appear like a modern park facility, but rather like a consciously composed garden with a developed identity. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

Particularly impressive is the diversity of plants. The official Kassel page speaks of a large variety of over 100 species from around the world. Flowers and perennials, deciduous and numerous coniferous trees from all continents, as well as native wild plants, water lilies, and orchids from Northern Hesse are combined and labeled there similarly to a botanical garden. The Heritage page adds that various perennials, spring bloomers, and exotic shrubs, as well as mighty trees, grow on the island. Additionally, the good climatic conditions are highlighted, under which rare perennials, ornamental shrubs, rhododendrons, and conifers can thrive. Thus, Siebenbergen is not only beautiful to look at but also botanically and horticulturally interesting. Those looking for photos will find very different motifs seasonally: spring colors, summer abundance, rhododendron bloom from May, and the autumn coloring of the leaves shape the appearance. The island is therefore not a static place but a space that changes from week to week and thus offers new perspectives again and again. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/karlsaue/blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

The location within the Karlsaue further enhances this effect. The Karlsaue itself is described as a large oasis in the middle of the city, and at the southern end of the park, Siebenbergen lies as a particularly flower-rich section. The official text also refers to hidden corners, views all the way to Hercules, and a rich variety of birds that enliven the area. This creates a visitor experience that goes far beyond a normal park walk. The island appears calm and secluded on one hand, while on the other hand, it offers enough visual variety to keep longer stays interesting. This balance makes the place so sought after: people search for a combination of nature, history, bloom, photos, and clear visitor information. Siebenbergen fulfills all these expectations on a small but very dense area. ([heritage-kassel.de](https://www.heritage-kassel.de/standorte/insel-siebenbergen))

Guided Tours, Accessibility, and Visitor Tips

Anyone who wants to experience Siebenbergen not only individually but with professional guidance will find guided tour offers. The city of Kassel explains that tours are seasonal and tailored to the time of year. Specific plants, their bloom, and development are highlighted during each tour. For groups, the tours can be adapted to wishes and needs; time, duration, and foreign languages are possible upon request. It is only important that a group inquiry must be submitted at least three working days before the appointment. This makes the place interesting for associations, small travel groups, or thematically interested visitors who want to learn more about the garden facility and its plant world. ([kassel.de](https://www.kassel.de/einrichtungen/gaeste/kassel-gruppen/gruppenfuehrungen/fuehrung-auf-der-blumeninsel-siebenbergen.php))

For individual visits, it is worthwhile to take some practical tips with you. The official Kassel page mentions partially barrier-free access and points out slopes and different path conditions. Those who rely on the most comfortable paths should therefore take the terrain character into account and plan for assistance if necessary. At the same time, wheelchair-accessible sanitary facilities are available in the ticket area, which makes the stay easier. Dogs are allowed on a leash, which is important for many walkers. Together, it shows: The Flower Island Siebenbergen is a historical park facility with a clear season, manageable admission, easily accessible address, and high botanical quality. Those who check opening hours, admission, and route in advance can plan their visit very relaxed and enjoy the special rhythm of the island in peace. This is precisely where the long-term appeal of this place in Kassel lies: it is not loud, not over-staged, and not arbitrary, but precisely designed, seasonally vibrant, and atmospherically dense. The island of Siebenbergen is a beautiful little island surrounded by water in the park. It costs 3 euros at the turnstile and ticket purchase at Café Siebenbürgen. It's worth it. We saw 2 peacocks and many great flowers are to be expected. A very well-maintained area. The Café Siebenbergen is also recommended. Deck chairs with a cool drink in summer overlooking the water and the island invite you to relax.
