GRIMMWELT Kassel | Events & Tickets 2026
The GRIMMWELT Kassel is the central exhibition house dedicated to the life and work of the Brothers Grimm – nestled in the green Weinbergpark above the southern part of Kassel at Weinbergstraße 21. In the architecturally striking building, valuable originals and contemporary art meet interactive stations that make fairy tale and language research vividly experienceable – labeled in both German and English. Whether as a family outing, school trip, cultural program on the weekend, or as a special setting for events: The GRIMMWELT invites you to rediscover the familiar, enjoy the view over Kassel from the rooftop garden, and linger in the in-house café-restaurant FALADA. The path from the town hall is short, the routes from the city center are signposted, and guests with mobility restrictions can also reach the exhibition and rooftop via elevator. In addition to the large permanent exhibition, changing special exhibitions, public tours, and readings complement the program. For conferences, workshops, and private celebrations, FALADA & Foyer as well as the conference room FREIRAUM are available – flexibly furnished and well-equipped technically. Thus, the GRIMMWELT becomes a place for cultural and educational experiences as well as for fairy tale events that remain in memory.
Events, Tours, and Special Exhibitions at GRIMMWELT Kassel
Current program points are bundled in the online calendar of the GRIMMWELT: Here, visitors can find overview tours of the permanent exhibition (“The GRIMMWELT from A–Z”) as well as readings, thematic tours, and the popular “Grimm's Fairy Tale Hour.” Special formats for different target groups are also bundled there – from family offers and vacation activities to adult programs and group and school formats. The variety makes the visit planable: Those who wish for a tour can choose fixed dates from the calendar or individually request a group tour (for group visits, prior registration is advisable from a certain number of people). In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions shape the annual planning. An example is “I, the Animal – Animals in Comics” (“I, ANIMAL”), which deals with anthropomorphic animal figures and their role in comic and illustration history and opens a new perspective on narrative worlds with numerous exhibits and curated contexts. The exhibition house consciously relies on a mix of valuable objects, artistic positions, and participatory elements – thus, the content remains tangible and lively. The integration of the house into the city is also reflected in the program: Collaborations with Kassel cultural institutions, contributions in the in-house journal, and thematic audio walks connect the exhibition with its surroundings. Practically: Through the calendar view, future dates can be filtered by date, so that one can quickly find a suitable tour or family activity on weekends or holidays. If you want to extend the fairy tale theme even further, combine the visit with a stroll through the Weinbergpark to enjoy the view of Hercules towards Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Overall, it holds true: The GRIMMWELT understands the program not just as a schedule but as a bridge between research, mediation, and experience – for young and old, for first-time visitors and returnees alike.
Tickets, Admission, and Opening Hours: How to Plan Your Visit
The opening hours of the GRIMMWELT are Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM; the house is closed on Mondays. On Hessian public holidays, the exhibition opens regularly – with exceptions: On December 24 (Christmas Eve) and January 1 (New Year), it remains closed; on December 25 and 26 (Christmas), it is open from 10 AM to 6 PM; on New Year's Eve (December 31), from 10 AM to 2 PM. For the permanent exhibition, including the currently running special exhibition, clear, family-friendly prices apply: Adults pay €10, reduced €7, families €25. Groups of eight or more receive the group price of €7 per person. For school classes, admission is €3 per student (two accompanying persons free). Student groups on seminar-related excursions pay €5 per person. Those who come more often benefit from the annual pass (Adults €35, Reduced €25, Families €85). Children under 6 years have free admission; additionally, there are numerous discounts, for example, for holders of KasselCard, GEO or artCard, for seniors over 65, people with disabilities, and other eligible groups upon presentation of proof. Tickets can be obtained easily at the museum ticket counter; prior registration is advisable for scheduled group visits and tours. Practical for travel planning: The program calendar shows the next tour dates at a glance. Those who want to remain flexible can combine the visit with breakfast or a late lunch at FALADA and consider the opening hours there. Tip: The shop and restaurant are accessible without admission – ideal for picking up souvenirs before or after the tour or taking a break. And because peak times can be expected with higher crowds, it is worth planning a little lead time for ticket purchases on-site, especially on weekends or during holidays.
Access and Parking at GRIMMWELT: Public Transport, Parking Garages, and Route Guidance
The GRIMMWELT is located in the protected area of a garden monument – additional traffic loads should be kept as low as possible here. Accordingly, traveling by public transport is recommended: With the RegioTram or tram lines, you can ride to “Rathaus” or “Rathaus/Fünffensterstraße” and follow the signs to GRIMMWELT (walking distance about 7 minutes). If starting from the Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe long-distance train station, take tram 1, 3, or 4 to Rathaus and walk the last meters. The signposted route for cyclists leads from the town hall up to the Weinberg. For drivers, the best destination is the Friedrichsplatz underground garage (navigation destination “Tiefgarage Friedrichsplatz,” follow the signs “Kassel Zentrum/Innenstadtring”). From there, a signposted footpath leads to GRIMMWELT: The city route is barrier-free (about 11 minutes), while the panorama route offers views but is not barrier-free (about 12 minutes). Only a few paid parking spaces are available directly at the house; these can be occupied, especially during peak times. A P+R offer is available at Auestadion in Damaschkestraße 2: From there, it is just a few minutes to the “Auestadion” stop and further with tram 5 or 6 or RegioTram 5 to Rathaus. Travel buses are not allowed to park at GRIMMWELT; a drop-off/pick-up point is located at Brüder-Grimm-Platz, and bus parking is available at the Natural History Museum/Ottoneum at Papinplatz (walking distance about 15 minutes). For visitors with mobility restrictions, exhibition levels and the roof are accessible via elevators; the route guidance from the city center is also signposted. An additional service tip: Those who park in the underground garage will find signs for the signposted route; occasionally, discounts are communicated upon presentation of a parking ticket. Overall, it holds true: With public transport, you are particularly comfortable and sustainable; those arriving by car should plan a short walk from the parking garage – a nice start, as the path through the Weinbergpark already conveys how green this central location is.
Families & Children: At What Age is the Visit Worthwhile – and What Can You Expect?
The exhibitions of the GRIMMWELT are deliberately designed so that adults and children can discover, try out, and discuss together. For the permanent exhibition, the house recommends a visit from age 6 – especially because the area on the language research of the Brothers Grimm (e.g., on the “German Dictionary”) makes prior knowledge from elementary school more accessible. This does not mean that younger children are excluded: Especially the interactive fairy tale world around the THORN BUSH invites daycare groups and preschool children to dive playfully into stories. For families, the team and program calendar offer special activities – from overview tours that convey content in a child-friendly manner to creative formats such as puzzle trails through special exhibitions. A plus for international families: All exhibition texts are bilingual (German/English), and the official GRIMMWELT app is available for free as an audio, reading, and media guide for iOS and Android; on-site, devices can be borrowed in limited numbers (for a fee, headphones available on request). The exhibition levels are accessible by elevator; strollers are allowed (access may be regulated during high traffic). Photography for private purposes is permitted (without flash, without tripod/selfie stick). Practically: The shop and restaurant are accessible without a ticket – ideal if the youngest need a snack before or after the tour. And if you still have energy after the museum visit, take the lift to the roof and let your gaze wander over the southern part of Kassel; this provides a perfect conclusion. Overall, this creates a visit experience that cleverly combines knowledge and magic – an “anchor point” for families in Kassel.
Catering On-Site: Café-Restaurant FALADA & GRIMMS GARTEN
The gastronomy is part of the overall experience at GRIMMWELT: The FALADA – Grand Café | Event location – serves breakfast from Tuesday to Sunday starting at 10 AM and warm meals from 12 PM; it is closed on Mondays, and on Fridays, it is open until 8 PM. The menu combines regional cuisine with classics: From wild herb salad with gratinated goat cheese to Kassel's “Griene Soße” to crispy schnitzel; juicy steaks and gourmet burgers made from North Hessian beef come from the grill, and homemade cakes and pastries from the in-house patisserie are also available. For groups of ten or more, prior reservation is recommended (by phone or email to the FALADA team). In the warm season, “GRIMMS GARTEN,” the summer outdoor area in the Weinbergpark, opens behind the house: In 2026, it is planned from May 13 to September 13; Tuesday to Friday from 3 PM to 10 PM and Saturday/Sunday and on public holidays from 12 PM to 10 PM (closed on Mondays). The generous window front area of FALADA opens the view over the southern part of the city and the surrounding hilly landscape – a charming place for breakfast for two, family breaks, or winding down after a tour. Good to know: The restaurant and shop are accessible without admission, so accompanying persons who do not visit the exhibition can comfortably wait or strengthen themselves. For private occasions, FALADA can be exclusively booked outside regular opening hours; thus, the gastronomy becomes the heart of many celebrations in the GRIMMWELT. Those looking for a gift will find books in the shop – including editions of the “Children's and Household Tales” – and selected souvenirs; there are also city-wide vouchers that can be redeemed for tickets and shop items from GRIMMWELT (excluding gastronomy).
Weddings, Conferences & Celebrations: Rooms, Technology, and Capacities at a Glance
In the middle of the Weinbergpark and yet close to the center, the GRIMMWELT offers an extraordinary event backdrop. For business meetings and private celebrations, two areas are available: FALADA & Foyer (a total of 212 m², ceiling height up to 4.45 m) and the conference room FREIRAUM (65 m²). FALADA & Foyer are flexibly usable and equipped with integrated projection technology (daylight projector and screen). The seating arrangements are clearly defined: Row seating for up to 100 places, parliamentary seating up to 50 places, banquet with regular setup up to 60 places – expandable to 88 places and with additional external furniture up to a maximum of 154 places. The FREIRAUM impresses with a panoramic view and modern conference technology; it offers depending on the setup 40 places in rows, up to 20 places at a block table, up to 32 places in workshop setting, or 22–36 places in a horseshoe shape. Both areas are barrier-free accessible, and large window areas can be darkened if necessary. For receptions, the approximately 2,000 m² rooftop garden area is available – a spectacular place for sparkling wine, finger food, and photos with a view over the city in good weather. The event team supports with planning, technology, and process; FALADA takes care of catering from multi-course menus to buffets. Exclusive events are possible outside regular museum hours. If you are planning a civil wedding, you benefit from the collaboration with the Kassel registry office: Dates for weddings in the GRIMMWELT are set in advance by the city, and inquiries for private celebrations go through the FALADA team. There are also attractive conference packages for corporate events – named after fairy tale motifs – with coffee and tea service, pastries from the in-house patisserie, and optionally lunch or coffee breaks at FALADA. In summary: Whether wedding, anniversary, presentation, or workshop – the GRIMMWELT offers the right setting and combines cultural flair with professional event infrastructure.

Very good museum in Kassel, with a lot of different installations that are interactive for children and adults, with informations displayed both in German and English. The main installation combines different elements and invites you to emerge and understand in a very nice way. Also, shout out to the museum staff who are super friendly and helpful, during the visit I had a great chat about the exposition and learned curious facts with them. I really liked and definitely recommend the visit!!

A great place to spend the afternoon with the family. The museum is divided into two main sections: 'Imaginarium' and the 'GRIMMWELT'; the first is a complete interactive tour of wooden games and interesting classical figures. It is highly recommended for a family visit, children will surely love it! On the other hand, the 'GRIMMWELT' amazes with the extensive collection of pieces they have on the life and work of the Grimm brothers. Curious facts, signed letters and photographs take up the first part of the tour, then it ends with an interactive section where it is even possible to ask the classic question: "Mirror, mirror, who is the fairest?". At the end, do not forget to visit the terrace and walk around the museum, because from there it is possible to see the famous Hercules of Kassel, and enjoy a beautiful view or sunset.
